Jake’s Story
When Jake first came to the Eugene Hearing and Speech Center two years ago, he was just three-years-old and he was using very little language. He often pointed to communicate his needs and wants. He started individual therapy, but made little progress.

Moving to the Communication Classroom Preschool proved to be a turning point for him. In this environment with other students, preschool Teacher Dixie says Jake has flourished. “He now says things like, ‘Hey, hey I know that,’ ‘Turn it off,’ and ‘My turn now.’ We are currently working on word endings with Jake and we’re beginning to see progress.”

“On a personal note,” she adds, “Out of the many students I have worked with during my time here at The Center, Jake is one of the kiddos who really touched my heart. I have observed his willingness and desire to learn, and I am amazed with how much growth he makes each week and is continuing to make. Jake is truly a delight to work with!”
